What the Chilean Pilgrim Credential is
It is the pilgrim’s document for Chileans. It was created in 2025, is inspired by the Jacobean tradition and is recognised by the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela as part of the Camino in the Americas. It is a dual credential: it certifies the walk along the Vía de los Andes, the 25 km in Santiago de Chile, and it lets you continue your pilgrimage in Spain, where you keep collecting stamps.
It is issued by the Círculo Chileno de Amigos del Camino de Santiago, a non-profit corporation. The credential is a registered work of the Círculo (Intellectual Property Registry no. 2026-A-11324).
How to request it
Everything is requested in a single form, “Pilgrim Requests” (Solicitudes del Peregrino). You can request the credential alone or together with other Círculo documents in the same request.
- Chilean Pilgrim Credential: CLP $3,700.
- Testimonium and credential together: CLP $6,000, with a single transfer.
- Payment: by bank transfer to the corporation’s account. The account details are under How to request and pay. The form asks for the receipt.
- Pick-up: Wednesdays 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at San Félix 1318, Vitacura (pedestrian entrance on Las Hualtatas).
What it is for in Spain
The Vía de los Andes was recognised by the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela as part of the Camino. Whoever completes it with the credential stamped can validate those 25 km, and in Spain they ask for 75 km instead of 100 for the Compostela. On the English Way from A Coruña, 73 km are enough.
The Compostela is the pilgrimage certificate. It is requested at the Pilgrim’s Office in Santiago de Compostela after walking at least the last 100 km on foot or on horseback, or 200 km by bicycle, with the credential stamped: at least two stamps per day in those stretches. Always check the current requirements on the official website of the Xunta de Galicia or at the Pilgrim’s Office before you travel.
How it is stamped
The paper credential is the official one: it is stamped at the churches and cultural spaces along the Vía. The digital credential in the Mi Credencial app is only a support, for example when nobody is available to stamp at a given time, with GPS or QR code stamps. In Spain you get stamps at hostels, churches, cafés and Camino offices.
