Mi Credencial is the Círculo Chileno app for walking the Vía de los Andes. You register once and then stamp each point along the route from your phone.
How it works
- Register just once with your details and your email. It helps us know who walks the Vía.
- Stamp each point when you arrive, by GPS (the app recognizes that you are at the place and asks if you want to confirm) or by scanning the point's QR code.
- Follow your progress on the map and in your list of stamps, by commune.
It works even if you have no internet at that moment: it saves your stamps on your phone and sends them when you get a signal again.
How to install it
You do not need an app store. It installs as an icon on your phone:
- iPhone (Safari): tap Share and then “Add to Home Screen”.
- Android (Chrome): tap the menu and then “Install app”.
Digital and paper credentials
To walk the Vía de los Andes you can use the digital credential (Mi Credencial) and also the paper pilgrim credential, which is given free of charge at the Cathedral, San Francisco de la Alameda, San Agustín and the Basílica de la Merced. The official pilgrim credential for the Camino in Spain (the dual one) is requested through the pilgrim request form and costs $3,700.
What else the app does
- Offline map of the Vía: the route is included in the app, with points, water, restrooms and emergency contacts, and it works without internet.
- Weather for the four communes and alerts for rain or very high UV radiation.
- My logbook: the record of each Vía you walk, with dates, stamps and your notes. You can do it over several days.
- Register a Vía you already walked: upload a photo of your pilgrim credential with the dates and the Círculo reviews it and adds your kilometers, scallop shell and badges.
- Trusted contact: it notifies a relative or friend by email when you stamp a point or when you send them your location. It is optional.
- Emergency phone numbers one tap away, with the municipal security numbers for each commune.
- Several languages: Spanish, English, Portuguese and French.
- Distance Certificate: it explains the document issued by the Cathedral and how it adds the 25 km of the Vía to your journey in Spain.
Before setting out, read the considerations and safety guide .
What you should know
- It does not replace the physical pilgrim credential: it is a support for when there is no one at a church to stamp it.
- It is only used in Chile, on the Vía de los Andes.
- Help us improve it with your feedback from within the app itself.
- If you do not have a suitable phone, you keep using the physical pilgrim credential and each church's stamp, as always.
The requirements for the Testimonium are the same: at least four stamps, starting at one of the four churches in the center and ending at the Benedictine Monastery.
