1. Internal credential of the Vía de los Andes
For use in Chile only. It lets you record the stamps from the churches and cultural spaces along the route. It is requested free of charge at any of the four starting churches: the Metropolitan Cathedral, San Francisco de la Alameda, San Agustín or the Basilica de la Merced. It is not valid in Spain, but it fully certifies that you completed the Vía in Chile.
2. Chilean Pilgrim Credential (dual)
Created in 2025, it is a symbolic, spiritual and official document, inspired by the Jacobean tradition and recognized by the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela as part of the Camino in the Americas. It is dual because it serves two purposes: it certifies your walk along the Vía de los Andes and it allows you to validate the 25 km of the Vía in Compostela, for those who continue their pilgrimage in Spain. It is the only valid document for officially certifying completion of the Vía.
3. Validation of the 25 km and Certificate of Distance
The Vía de los Andes was recognized by the Chapter of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela as part of the Camino de Santiago in the Americas. Those who complete it can validate those 25 km by presenting the dual credential with the official stamps. That way, in Spain only 75 km are left to reach the minimum of 100 km and obtain the Compostela.
The Certificate of Distance, issued by the Cathedral, certifies that you completed both the Vía de los Andes and the Spanish stretch.
